http://www.rock-it-room.com/JULES BROUSSARD, is well-known for his unique saxophone style. Born in Louisiana, his music took him on the road at a young age. After bopping about, "He chose the Bay Area for studio and stage with such luminaries as Ray Charles, Boz Scaggs, Van Morrison, Carlos Santana, Earl Grant, Elvin Bishop, Art Garfunkel and Doctor Hook."
http://www.broussard.com/MIKE SHAPIRO grew up on the Peninsula, writing, recording, and performing in Garage bands heavily influenced by the British. He had a hit record with William Penn and his Pals at a young age and has been working it ever since. He plays guitar for a lot of bands, but given the choice, he likes to weave his way between the blues and old-school rock.

Jules Broussard interview
I first saw Jules Broussard at Rasselas when it was on the corner of California and Divisadero. I had heard about him, but never seen him perform. It was a cold winter night, and I settled into my cognac at the bar by the steamed up window, watching the pedestrians blowing by outside. I swirled the warm glass in my hands, thinking about an ad I was working on, as the band was warming up. When Jules came in on the sax, I immediately stood up to see who was playing. During the break I was able to get a seat up front. I can't remember what songs the band played or if I had a date or any other details of that evening. All I know is, I was inspired to sketch a sax playing itself because that's the way I felt about Jules on the sax. I was pretty excited to finally get the opportunity to meet Jules and thank him for inspiring that picture.
I understand you grew up in Louisiana. Not New Orleans or you would say New Orleans. So where in Louisiana? Alexandria
What was your first musical experience? Playing in a family band, with my uncle leading on tenor saxophone (he was my inspiration). We played for dances all over Louisiana.
What was your first instrument? Alto saxophone, for which I saved my own money by cleanings offices, and bought at age 12.
Was your family supportive of your music? Yes, as answered above -- they were in it.
How did growing up in the south effect your music style? Blues was our main music genre. We played for different ages, so we learned standards, waltzes, polkas -- whatever it took to please the audience.
How old were you when you went on the road? Age 12.
What made you decide to settle in the SF Bay Area? I was stationed in Alaska as a soldier and this was the first stop. I loved it from the minute i arrived.
Of all the famous people you have played with, which sessions were the most exciting? There were many, but I enjoyed the energy and audience feedback from playing as part of Santana's band.
Anything you are working on now that you would like to tell us about? Yes, I'd love to mention I'm starting a new project that I hope will demonstrate my love of different genres of music. I hope to even include strings on some of the cuts.
Anyone you are still looking forward to meeting? How I wish I could have met Louis Armstrong, Lester Young and Charlie Parker; three of my idols.
Have you played any benefits lately? Yes, a couple for New Orleans after Katrina.
Anything you would like to add? Music is still big fun.

Michael Shapiro interview
I met Mike Shapiro at The Paradise Lounge and he asked me to work on some press for his Deja Vu CD release. Since then we have run into each other at many shows and private parties around the SF Bay Area. In addition to his own shows, Mike plays guitar in many SF bands, and is always working on a new CD. He has played most of the venues in town including The Boom Boom Room, John Foley's Irish house and Lou's Pier 47. It is hard to nail his style down but he plays mostly rock, blues, jazz, and a little surf. He has produced albums for a few local artists, including The Texas Twister, William Penn and His Pals, and Carl Ludewig. Mike met Jules Broussard through his guitarist, Joe Lacocao, and, when the opportunity presented itself, was inspired to produce a show at the recently re-modeled Rockit Room, the former Last Day Saloon on Clement St.
What made you think of working with Jules Broussard? I wasn't quite a good enough Jazz player to become one of his guitarist but he always lets me sit in and play a Freddy King song or two.
What other opportunities are you looking at? I have a few songs on ITunes that are selling pretty well. One of my first songs, "There I Go I've Said it Again", has sold 500 CDs in the last two months on CD Baby.
A little history. You grew up in the Bay Area and met a lot of famous people as a young singer/songwriter, what inspired you most as you become a serious musician? I loved music from a very young age and I have fell in love with guitar at first sight. It was almost Deja Vu. By the way that is name of my first CD, on beatrecords.com
What inspired you to write your own music? I decided at about age 5 that songwriting was what I wanted.
What is inspiring you now? The same thing.
Do you write the music, the lyrics, or both? I write lyrics and music
I understand you co-wrote a number of songs with various people. Which of your writing partners was the easiest to work with? The first person I ever wrote a song was with Gregg Rolie. He started Santana and later Journey
What is the most rewarding? I love it when I know that people are listening and liking my music.
Your favorite recording project? I have a good time all of the time recording my music. People who know me know that my car is always full of CDs that have the names of songs scribbled in marker pen all over the place.
Anything I don't know about that you would like to mention? If you love music give my music a listen. http://www.beatrecords.com
